Your treatment options
We offer a wide variety of treatments, some of which are covered under NHS care. Your dentist will have already discussed whether you meet the criteria to be referred under the NHS. If you have been told your child does not meet the criteria for an NHS referral, we can let you know other options available to them.
NHS orthodontic treatment
In April 2006 the Department of Health introduced strict new guidelines to ascertain a patient’s eligibility to undergo NHS orthodontic treatment. Cases are now assessed according to the Index of Orthodontic Treatment Need (IOTN). The score your child receives on this index will determine whether he/she is eligible for treatment on the NHS.

Premium private care
If your child is not eligible for orthodontic treatment under the NHS, they can still receive the treatment they require via our premium private care service. This includes a wide range of appliances as well as premium appointment times outside school hours and on Saturdays.

Orthodontic appliances for children
At The Orthodontic Centre most of our orthodontic appliances are suitable for children, and some have been designed with our younger patients in mind.
- Fixed braces – This appliance requires elastics to be fitted around the brackets, but to make orthodontic treatment fun we have coloured elastic options available. These elastics can be changed at most appointments, so you can choose your favourite colour, the colours of your football or rugby team or a colour for a special occasion, such as Christmas.
- Removable braces – We also offer a choice of colour for our removable braces.
- Mouthguards: Braces won’t stop your child from playing sport but it is important they wear a mouthguard when doing so. We’ve made this necessity fun as well, with a range of colours and designs to choose from.
- Invisalign Teen – Invisalign Teen treatment utilises the well-known clear aligner system to let teenagers straighten their teeth without braces. This system is available privately.
- Invisalign First – Invisalign First is designed to treat a broad range of teeth straightening issues in growing children and is available privately.
Please note, however, that some of our cosmetic options are only suitable for children aged 14 and over.
