About us

Orthodontic Care at The Orthodontic Centre

We are pleased to offer our patients a range of options for their dental care.

NHS Care

We offer NHS care to children but adult patients are treated privately.

Private Care

At this practice we only offer Functional Appliance privately. If your child needs this type of treatment we will discuss the treatment with you including costs. You will also be given an NHS option. However, the decision on whether to have private treatment is yours. Your orthodontist and practice staff will be pleased to provide information on private care at the practice.

Paying for your dental care

The practice offers a number of different payment options and it may be possible for the treatment to be paid for in stages. Just ask at reception for further details.

Copy of our private fee scale is available from reception. Our private fees are based on an hourly rate which covers our practice expenses and allows us to provide a high standard of care and service to our patients.

Private patients

Patients who choose to pay for their treatment on a wholly private basis receive the following benefits; late afternoon and Saturday appointments and a choice of metal, gold or ceramic brackets. These are in addition to the following services that we provide for all of our patients:

  • Care in an emergency
  • A speedy complaints procedure
  • Reminders that check ups are due
  • Full compliance with recommended infection control procedures

Care at the practice

We provide orthodontic care for children under the NHS and privately. The Orthodontic Centre also undertakes adults private cases. Full written details of our private fee scale are available from Reception.

Facilities

The practice has four surgeries Our premises and surgeries are accessible to wheelchairs.

Disabled Access Policy

In order to comply with current Disabled Access legislation introduced by the Disability Discrimination Act on 1st October 2004, the Orthodontic Centre has recently carried out a thorough and comprehensive access audit. To this end we have gathered some information provided by organisations such as the British Dental Association and the Disibility Rights Commission. We would like to welcome and facilitate the treatment of patients with disabilities at the practice given the structural limitations imposed by the building which was constructed in 1884. Obviously vast alterations to the building would impose a major disruption to the running of the business and the safety of our patients and the continuity of their treatment.

We have a portable ramp available for step-free access into the ground floor of the building. The ground floor surgery is wheelchair accessible and toilet facilities are available but require assistance.

We would ask any disable patients to kindly telephone us in advance so that provisions and assistance can be made beforehand.

The issue of Disabled Access is very important to us, and we make it a topic at our weekly practice meetings. Please follow developments on our website and in our practice leaflet.

Communication

Good communication with our patients is very important to us and we take time to explain proposed treatment, any risks associated with it as well as available alternatives. There will always be time to ask questions about the treatment or any other aspect of care at the practice. As a patient of the practice you will receive recalls at agreed intervals.

Information about you

In order to provide you with a high standard of orthodontic care and attention, we need to hold personal information about you. This practice complies with the 1998 Data Protection Act and our data protection policy describes our procedures for ensuring that personal information about patients is processed fairly and lawfully and kept confidential. Please ask at reception if you would like to see our policy.

Missed appointments

If you are not able to keep your appointment please give us at least 24 hours’ notice. If less than 24 hours’ notice is given a charge of £1 per minute may be made. If you are pleased with the care and treatment you receive from our practice, please recommend us to others. We welcome new patients.

Refund policy and complaints

We want you to be entirely satisfied with your care and treatment. If you are not satisfied with the care or service provided at the practice please talk to our complaints manager, Mrs Jane Hawthorne, who will deal with the complaint according to the practice’s complaints policy.
